Born in Colombia in 2009, Juan José Peña Aguirre began violin studies in Chile at age 6. By 8, he debuted with the Concepción Symphony Orchestra and won the VII Young Talent Contest. In Switzerland, he joined the Menuhin Academy. He has received masterclasses from Pinchas Zukerman, Pavel Vernikov, and others. He made his European debut at 9 in Geneva’s Victoria Hall with orchestra.
Currently pursuing his Bachelor at the Haute École de Musique in Lausanne under Svetlana Makarova, with mentorship from Eduard Wulfson, he also studies piano at the Lausanne Conservatory. Juan José has won first prizes at the Swiss SJMW, including chamber music and composition, and second prize at „Il Piccolo Violino Magico.“ He plays a 1690 Giovanni Battista Rogeri violin owned by the Maggini Foundation.
Juan José is currently preparing for upcoming recitals across Europe. Praised as a „new young virtuoso“ (Thomastik-Infeld), „dazzling“ (Diario Austral), and delivering „grand performances“ (Los Angeles Times).
